Hope - Cover Page - 2020-08-18.png

Hope was written during the summer of the Covid 19 pandemic.  While not written to directly respond to the crisis, it is meant to be a piece that inspires hope in anyone who needs it.

The opening chord progression introduces the harmonic language of the piece, after which a trumpet solo hints at the main theme.  The full ensemble then presents this theme along with a secondary theme before a return to the ethereal opening.  This provides a solo opportunity for the flute to develop the main theme which ultimately leads to a climactic return of the opening theme.  The piece ends with the brass presenting a thematic fragment over a descending harmonic progression finishing with a full band chord held until it disappears.
